These Terms and Conditions govern all auctions conducted by Provenance Auctions e.U. and Provenance Auctions Kft. (hereinafter collectively referred to as the “Auctioneer”).

1.1. The Auctioneer organizes and carries out the auction sale of goods listed in this catalogue voluntarily and publicly in its own name and for the account of the consignors.
1.2. Participation is open to the public; however, the Auctioneer reserves the unrestricted right to refuse or revoke participation at its sole discretion and without the obligation to provide justification.
1.3. All participants must register in advance. By placing a bid, each bidder acknowledges and accepts full responsibility for all obligations arising therefrom, including timely payment and lawful use of their account.

1. All bidding is conducted in Euros (€).

2. Starting prices listed in the auction catalogue represent the minimum acceptable bid. Bidding increments are as follows:

2.3. The highest bid acknowledged by the Auctioneer shall constitute the winning bid.
2.4. Bidders unknown to the Auctioneer may be required to provide a deposit equal to 10% of their intended bidding amount or of the credit limit requested.
2.5. New clients must complete the registration process no later than two (2) business days prior to the start of the auction and must expressly consent to the Auctioneer contacting any auction houses listed as references in order to verify their identity, bidding history, and conduct.

1. All descriptions and grading assessments are prepared with due care and are published in the online catalogue. In the event of any discrepancy between textual descriptions and images, the images shall prevail.

2. The grading of coins is a personal judgement but corresponds to the accepted grading scale in the European coin business.

3. Items may be inspected prior to the auction upon request. Appointments may be arranged via email at: [email protected].

4. All items are sold “as seen”, and no claims regarding condition or quality will be accepted after the sale, except as expressly provided in Section 7.

5. The official language of the auction is English. All lot descriptions are prepared in English; therefore, bidders are requested to verify the accuracy of any translations they rely on. We cannot accept responsibility for misunderstandings arising from the use of Onebid’s or any other automatic translation function.

4.1. The total purchase price consists of the hammer price plus a 22% buyer’s premium.
4.2. An additional 2% live-bidding fee applies to purchases made via online live-auction platform (Onebid). All premiums include VAT where applicable.
4.3. International buyers are solely responsible for compliance with customs, tax, and import regulations in their own jurisdiction.
4.4. Payment is due within five (5) business days from the date of the Auction.
4.5. In the event of non-payment, the Auctioneer reserves the right to place the defaulting buyer on a blacklist, thereby preventing future participation in auctions hosted by Provenance Auctions and potentially by other auction houses.
4.6. Removal from the blacklist is possible only after the buyer fully compensates the Auctioneer for all losses incurred, specifically the buyer’s premium, which accrues interest at 2% per month until paid in full.
4.7. In such cases, the winning lot will not be transferred to the defaulting buyer. Upon expiry of the payment deadline, the item is returned to the Consignor. The defaulting buyer is therefore neither entitled to the item nor to any form of compensation.

Accepted payment methods include:

• Cash (EUR or HUF) — in person, by appointment only, available exclusively for purchases exceeding €1,000

• Bank transfer (EUR or HUF)

• Wise transfer (EUR or HUF)

• PayPal / Card Payment (EUR or HUF) — subject to a 6% processing fee

All invoices are issued in Euros (€). Currency conversions, where applicable, are based on the official European Central Bank exchange rate.

6.1. Shipping costs include insurance coverage according to the following scale:

• Invoice < €500 → no insurance

• €500–999 → insured up to €500

• €1,000–2,999 → insured up to €1,000

• €3,000+ → insured up to €3,000

6.2. Buyers requiring higher-value insurance must notify the Auctioneer prior to payment. Additional insurance is charged at 2% of the amount exceeding €3,000.
6.3. The Auctioneer bears no liability for loss or damage exceeding the insured amount.
6.4. Claims may only be processed once the courier or insurer formally confirms reimbursement.
6.5. Any negligence or error by the buyer (e.g., incorrect address, refusal of delivery, return shipment) renders the buyer fully liable for all associated costs.

7.1. The Auctioneer guarantees authenticity of all items listed in the catalog unless otherwise stated in the description, such as „sold as is”, including restrikes, later strikes, counterfeits, or any lots described with such notation—no warranty applies in such cases.
7.2. Claims relating to condition (such as plugs, mount traces, or other defects) must be submitted in writing by email within 14 days of receipt of the item.

We do not accept any unidentified packages without prior notification, and we do not accept cash-on-delivery shipments under any circumstances.

If you wish to return an item within the 14-day period, you must first notify us by email. Once you have received our written confirmation acknowledging your claim, you may return the item at your own expense to the address provided by us.

7.3. The following categories are excluded from returns and claims:

• Professional buyers or companies, who may only submit claims concerning authenticity; the 14-day withdrawal period does not apply to them.

• Personal pickup: in the case of personal pickup, the buyer has the opportunity to examine the item before taking possession. Therefore, the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply in this case.

• Coins graded Fine (F) or below

• Group lots

• Lots explicitly sold “as is”, including restrikes, later strikes, counterfeits, or any lots described with such notation—no warranty applies in such cases.

7.4. Slabbed/graded coins (e.g., NGC, PCGS) are not eligible for return to the Auctioneer. Any disputes regarding grading or authenticity must be resolved directly with the grading company.
7.5. Once a coin has been removed from its holder, all claims become void.
7.6. The Auctioneer’s liability is limited strictly to proven direct property damage up to the amount of the hammer price. The Auctioneer shall not be liable for consequential losses or loss of profit.
7.7. The Auctioneer bears no responsibility for customs duties, taxes, or any other buyer-side expenses.

By placing a bid, the bidder acknowledges full acceptance of these Terms and Conditions and agrees to be legally bound by them.

All disputes arising out of or in connection with these Terms and Conditions shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of Vienna, Austria, or Budapest, Hungary, depending on which company issued the invoice and therefore which legal entity the contractual relationship was established with.
