- Władysław Strzemiński 1893-1952. on the 100th anniversary of his birth, Museum of Art, Lodz 1994, p. 233, cat. VI. 100, il.

In the summer of 1949, Władysław Strzemiński traveled in the company of his student, Hanna Orzechowska, to Lower Silesia, to Nowa Ruda (where, in previous years, he had attended plein-air events with students) and Bierutowice near Karpacz. This time it was a private, restful stay. The artist drew landscapes during this time, and also made a series of portrait drawings, unusual for him, of the wards of the Orphanage in Bierutowice, including Wanda Kulig, a 14-year-old half-orphan resident of the Orphanage. The drawings appeared in the weekly magazine "Wieś" 1949 No. 33-34 (August 12-21), occupying an entire column. Strzeminski regularly collaborated with this magazine (the bibliography of his texts notes 13 articles published there in 1948-1949), posting articles there on both social issues and texts on modern and ancient art (he was working on his Theory of Seeing at the time).

♣ A fee will be added to the auctioned price in addition to other costs, based on the right of the creator and his heirs to receive remuneration in accordance with the Law of February 4, 1994 - on Copyright and Related Rights (droit de suite).

Wladyslaw Strzeminski studied at the Military Engineering School in St. Petersburg (1911-14).
From 1914 he fought in the Russian army, and in 1915 he was severely wounded (lost his left forearm and right no-gauge, had his right eye severely damaged). In 1918 he took up art studies at the First State Free Workshops (SVOMAS) in Moscow. In 1919-20 he stayed with his wife, the sculptor Katarzyna Kobro, in Minsk and Smolensk, undertaking numerous activities in the field of the emerging post-revolutionary artistic life of Soviet Russia. After returning to Poland in 1921, he settled in Vilnius, then lived in central Poland and, from 1931, in Lodz. From 1923 he worked as a drawing teacher in secondary and vocational schools (including gymnasiums in Vileyka and Szczekociny, the Female Industrial and Commercial Secondary School in Koluszki, a printing school in Lodz). He was a co-founder, member and theoretician of the Polish Constructivist groups: "Blok" (from 1924), "Praesens" (from 1926) and "a.r.&#82
