Jerzy Kalucki, untitled, ink drawing on cardboard, 50x70 cm, 1996 In addition to spatial installations, painting and printmaking, Jerzy Kalucki's oeuvre includes drawings that are not sketches, but final, autonomous or autotelic works. In the presented drawing, the author considers the relations of tensions of the arc on the plane, referring to the traditions of constructivism as much as Greek antiquity and the European Renaissance. Nowadays, drawings by this author very rarely appear on the market. The work is undoubtedly a collectible, investment piece, but with great aesthetic value, also as a visual element for minimalist interiors. Signature in the lower right corner: Kalucki 1996.very good condition, unframed. The gallery can realize the framing of the drawing at the order and expense of the buyer.
Jerzy Kalucki (1931-2022) studied painting and scenography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow from 1951-57 under Zygmunt Radnicki and Andrzej Stopka. From 1981 he ran the painting studio at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Poznań, now the University of Arts. He was the author of numerous theatrical and television stage designs. Since 1976 he was a member of the reactivated Cracow Group. He also exhibited at the Krzysztofory Gallery in Cracow: for example, "Showing a painting of a segment of an arc with radius r=1970 cm". In addition to painting and stage design, he practiced drawing, printmaking and spatial installations. Jerzy Kalucki is often referred to as a "philosophical constructivist," and he himself readily referred to himself as a continuator of painting initiated by Kazimir Malevich. The artist's works are in museum and private collections at home and abroad.
