A spoon of elongated, proportional form, with an oval, slightly elongated scoop with a smooth surface and a subtly raised rim. The handle is straight, gently tapered in the middle part, transitioning to a widening, rounded end with a soft, wavy line.
On the back of the handle, a set of punches is visible: the larger one with an octagonal outline with the jeweler's workshop initials TJK, next to it a small control punch and the official punch of the Bochnia Branch Assay Office: in a semicircular cartouche - D3, "13" (the silver sample in the arc system) and the date 1858.
Size: length 16 cm
Weight: 31, 75 g.
Condition as shown in the photos.
The presented spoon is an example of goldsmith craftsmanship from the area of Galicia, which was part of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy in the 19th century. The probationary system in use at the time was based on the rogue sample, where the "13" designation corresponds to a high silver content (about 812/1000), indicating the solid quality of the material.
The distinctive punch of the Bochnia Assay Office, which was subordinate to the Lviv branch, belongs to the Austro-Hungarian system of inspecting silver products and makes it possible to unambiguously determine the origin of the object.
The form of the spoon, devoid of excessive decorativeness, is in keeping with the aesthetics of late historicism and early functionalism, where the emphasis was on proportion, convenience of use and durability. Today, the object is an interesting testimony to the material culture of Galicia and an exemplary article of everyday use with collector and documentary value.
