Shabbat candlestick, probably Norblin, Warsaw, late 19th - early 20th century
Silver plated brass
Signature partially preserved - visible inscription "WARSAW".
A magnificent Jewish (Shabbat) candlestick, made of silver plated brass, with a slender, ornamental form. The shank decorated with embossed floral motifs and a Star of David, which is the central symbolic element of the composition. Rich, decorative design with clear eclecticism features and influences of the Warsaw Secession.
A partially obliterated signature is visible on the base, from which a fragment of the inscription "Warsaw" remains legible, indicating with high probability the Norblin workshop in Warsaw - one of the most famous manufacturers of platinum in the Kingdom of Poland.
The object was secondarily converted into an electric lamp, as evidenced by the preserved holes and notches, one of which damaged part of the signature.
A rare example of a Warsaw Sabbath candlestick from the turn of the 20th century, combining functionality with rich symbolism and craftsmanship.
