setting of the spout silver pr. 0.925, Sheffield mark of 1881, tax mark with Queen Victoria's head of 1838-1890, goldsmith's company mark: J.D& S. (James Dixon & Sons, Sheffield, year founded 1867), dedication in English on the setting: Presented to / The Rev. H. L. Nelthropp M.A. F.S.A. / By a Few Burgesses of the / Upper Norwood Ward / as a Token of Their Respect & Esteem / July 1883; h. 24.5 cm. Condition of preservation b. good.
Reverend H. L. Nelthropp M.A. F.S.A. (1820-1901) in 1894 donated his extensive collection of clocks, watches and seals to the Watchmaking Company; as a token of thanks, the company commissioned his portrait, now in the Watchmaking Museum in London.
