FRANCISZEK KURZEJA (1936-2011)
Exceptional artist with a rich creative output, including painting, printmaking, sculpture and cut-outs. Coming from an indigenous Silesian family, he was connected with the region from his youth - his father was a driver for Korfanty, and his mother was a cartoonist for the "Polonia" magazine. Despite graduating from a mining technical school and working in the Katowice mine for most of his life, his true passion was art. In 1956, he co-founded the art group "Gwarek 58." His works, full of references to the history of Silesia, Solidarity and the fall of communism, are deeply rooted in Silesian tradition and culture.
Kurzeja has created authentic art that not only documents important historical moments, but also captures the spirit of the region. Each of his works is a unique expression of Silesian heritage, a valuable addition to any art collection. Despite his lack of formal art training, he has been able to capture the essence of human emotions and experiences in simple but moving forms.
Starting October 21, we invite you to our headquarters in Katowice for a pre-auction exhibition of works.
