Biography
He studied art at Jakub Kacenbogen’s drawing school in Łódź, and later at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in Stanisław Lentz’s studio. In 1920, he left for Paris, where he lived in the famous “La Ruche” pavilion, which housed artists’ studios. While in Paris, he attended classes at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and the Académie Colarossi. In the 1920s, he maintained ties with the artistic community in Poland, exhibiting in Warsaw and Łódź. During World War II, he lived in Saint-Tropez, then moved to Nice and Paris, before relocating to Israel in the 1950s. Landau’s paintings are characterized by a broad, rich color palette and a serene, idyllic style. The artist’s work is dominated by depictions of women, motherhood, and bucolic themes.
