TOMASZ CIECIERSKI
(1945 Krakow - 2024 Warsaw)
Classic of Polish contemporary art. Painter, draughtsman, author of collages and photographs. Studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw; graduated in 1971 in the studio of Krystyna Lada-Studnicka. From 1972 to 1985 he was a lecturer at the academy. He participated, among others, in the Biennale in Sao Paulo (1988, 1994) and in the IX Documenta in Kassel (1992). Heexhibited many times at the Wetering Galerie in Amsterdam, at the Galerie Hans Strelow in Düsseldorf and at the Foksal Gallery in Warsaw. Winner of the Cybis Prize (1999) awarded by the Warsaw District of ZPAP for lifetime achievement in painting.
In 2002, Zderzak Gallery organized his solo exhibition entitled. "Paintings and Dirty Writings. 1971-2002". It was accompanied by a publication under the same title: a unique combination of art, artist's commentary and the creative process itself. The sophisticated graphic design of this publication was awarded by PTWK: Zderzak's publication received an honorable mention in the competition for the most beautiful book of the year.
The artist's works can be found, among others, in the collections of the National Museum in Warsaw, Cracow, CCA in Torun, Zachęta Gallery and CCA in Warsaw, as well as in private collections at home and abroad.
