A large and imposing icon of Saint Nicholas depicted in his traditional vestments, holding the Gospel and gesturing in blessing. The saint is flanked by small medallions of Christ and the Mother of God. The piece is covered by a magnificent, richly decorated oklad featuring a dense floral border and a prominent sunburst halo . The craftsmanship of the metal cover indicates a high-quality workshop from the 19th century. Tempera on wood panel, heavy silvered/gilded brass oklad (riza) with repoussé and chased floral decoration. 31 x 25.5 cm.
