Valery Valentinovich KUCHNO
1945 Armavir - 1998
Russian landscape artist. Graduated from the Krasnoyarsk Art School (1972). Studied at the Leningrad Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. He has exhibited since 1973 and lived in Krasnodar. Maintaining formal fidelity to realism both thematically and compositionally, he developed a peculiar visual language in which the traditions of old masters' painting and technological innovations of the early 20th century organically merged. He is a clear representative of the realist school, enriched by the aesthetics of modernism. He created a very specifically post-impressionist painting, from which open color was removed, "aging" the surface of the canvas. Like French painter Maurice Utrillo, he used sand to create a textured surface. His works usually have a melancholy mood.
