Kavelbeschrijving
Schattingen: 1 000 - 2 000 EUR

Janowski was deeply fascinated by European cavalry history and military costume, a passion shared by many prominent Polish artists of his generation (such as Juliusz and Wojciech Kossak):
Panel 1 (Prussian Cuirassier): Depicts a Prussian heavy cavalryman mounted on a bay horse. He wears the iconic steel helmet (Pickelhaube), a protective chest cuirass (Kürass), and holds a lance, trotting across an open field.
Panel 2 (French Cuirassier): Features a French heavy cavalryman riding a dapple-grey horse at a gallop. He is adorned in a classic French brass helmet with a black horsehair plume (crinière), red epaulettes, and a cuirass, with a distant town visible on the horizon.
Stanisław Janowski (1866–1942) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków under Jan Matejko and Władysław Łuszczkiewicz, as well as at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Johann Caspar Herterich. A key figure in the Young Poland (Młoda Polska) movement, Janowski was an extraordinarily versatile artist who worked as a painter, graphic illustrator, stage designer, and officer in the Polish Legions during World War I. His military and genre scenes are celebrated for their authentic historical detail and lively spirit. Oil on wood panel (Pair) . Each 15 x 13 cm
