Biography
In 1909, he began his art studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vilnius. There, he met Chaim Soutine and Michel Kikoine. The friendship between the artists led to a joint plan to travel to Paris. Krémegne left for Paris as early as 1912 and took up residence at the famous La Ruche in Montparnasse. The painter moved in the city’s artistic bohemian circles. He frequently traveled outside Paris to paint en plein air. He first visited the town of Céret in 1918, to which he often returned, and later even owned an estate there. He created landscapes, portraits, and still lifes, in which he paid particular attention to color and expressive, dynamic lines.
