Hermine Lindner (1862-1932), Young Girl with Azaleas

This large-scale oil on canvas painting is a masterful work by Hermine Lindner (1862–1932), a significant German painter who lived and worked in Prague. Lindner was a pivotal figure in the artistic life of German female painters in Bohemia, serving as a co-founder and inaugural board member of the Women’s Section of the Dürer Association in 1904. This section later evolved into the Association of German Women Painters, which played a crucial role in promoting professional standards and organizing annual exhibitions and awards. Lindner’s own dedication to her craft was recognized in 1932, when she was awarded the prize for drawing. In this painting, she captures an intimate and evocative scene of a young girl seated at a table, surrounded by a lush arrangement of blooming azaleas in vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow. Her painterly touch emphasizes the soft light filtering through the floral display, creating a serene and timeless atmosphere that reflects the high caliber of her contribution to the Central European art scene of the early 20th century.
