The painting depicts a scene of the crucifixion of Christ, one of the most widespread iconography in Christian art. The composition is vertical and focused on the figure of Jesus nailed to the cross, shown frontally with his arms outstretched. Above the head is a plaque with the inscription "INRI," according to iconographic tradition.
The work is maintained in subdued, muted color tones, with a dominance of grays, browns and muted beiges. The modeling of Christ's body is soft, subtly brought out by light, which contrasts with the dark, almost monochromatic background. The crucified man's face expresses suffering and resignation, and at the same time calmness - characteristic of religious devotional painting.
The composition is sparing, the lack of an elaborate landscape or clear accompanying figures directs attention exclusively to the drama of the crucifixion. At the bottom of the painting one can only see the outline of two figures, in the distance a blurred view of Jerusalem ?
The painting is framed in a simple, dark-colored wooden frame, which emphasizes the austere, contemplative nature of the work.
There is a minimal repaired chip in the lower right space, visible signs of aging in the paint layer.
Oil on canvas.
Dimension in frame 64x80 cm.
