Dorota Kozieradzka is a graduate of the Faculty of Painting at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. She completed her diploma in 2007 under the direction of Prof. Jaroslaw Modzelewski, while the annex to her diploma in photography was completed under the direction of Prof. Grzegorz Kowalski. The artist practices photography as an independent field of art, but also as one of many media for artistic expression: "Although I mostly work with the lens, mentally I remain a painter. I also treat photography as a tool (just like installation, performance, video, or drawing)." Photography is also a source of reflection on mediated imaging: "How far does truth lie from fiction? - ponders the artist - I move this boundary freely. Doesn't the imaginary, brought from across this border, look real? Aren't objective facts transformed into the matter of art unified or even mythologized by it?". Kozieradzka's paintings are a game with illusion and "truth." Her hyperrealistic paintings from the series "Suspension of Flight" or "Monuments" depict objects that actually exist. The painter painstakingly reproduces the details of their appearances. However, the accumulation of these, and sometimes the placement of the depicted objects in circumstances alien to them, makes the painting have little in common with the Renaissance idea of a window on reality, but rather brings to mind the tricks of a prestidigitator. Kozieradzka's painting is thus thoroughly contemporary - through her paintings the artist asks philosophical questions, undermines the schemes of perception/imaging, (re)interprets reality.
