Alfred Aberdam - painter of Jewish origin, associated with École de Paris. He was born in 1894 in Lviv and died in 1963 in Paris. He studied painting at the Munich Academy (from 1911), and after World War I - after a stay in Russian captivity - continued his studies at the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts under Teodor Axentowicz.
Since the early 1920s, he lived mainly in Paris, where he became associated with a circle of artists from Central and Eastern Europe and the so-called Group of Four (Aberdam, Léon Weissberg, Sigmund Menkes, Joachim Weingart). He participated in numerous exhibitions in France and Poland, and belonged to the "Modern Artists" group. His work includes figural compositions, genre scenes, atelier motifs, still lifes and landscapes with a characteristic synthetic form and dim, noble colors. Aberdam's works are in museum and private collections in France, Poland, Switzerland and Israel, among others.
