5 Ngwee 1972, a circulation coin of the Republic of Zambia.
The obverse features a portrait of Kenneth Kaunda, the first president of Zambia, along with the name of the country and the date 1972. The reverse features an Ipomoea tricolor flower and the denomination 5 Ngwee.
The coin is struck in nickel brass. Weight: 2.83 g; diameter: 19.4 mm. Struck at the Royal Mint in Llantrisant.
Catalog mintage: 10,000,000 pieces.
The coin is part of the “Coins of All Nations” collector’s series issued by The Franklin Mint and comes in its original envelope with a postage stamp and postmark.
The envelope is complemented by a Zambian postage stamp with a face value of 18 ngwee, depicting Zaddach’s Forester butterflies (Euphaedra zaddachi elephantina).
The envelope was postmarked in Ndola on September 27, 1980.
