Sigismund I the Old, Groschen 1540, Danzig

A very nice piece with an off-center strike.

Much of the mint luster remains in the background.

Obverse: the crowned coat of arms of Gdańsk within a pearled border; the outer border bears a legend beginning with the hook symbol:
GROSSVS•CIVI•GEDANEN•1540;

Reverse: within a pearl border, a royal bust wearing a cap and crown, facing right; in the outer border, a legend beginning with an asterisk:
SIGIS•I•REX•POLO•DO•TO•PRV;
