Rare commemorative zinc medal struck in 1869, issued to mark the 300th anniversary of the Union of Lublin and the ceremonial reinterment of the remains of King Casimir the Great in Kraków.
The obverse motif refers to the events of 1869, when – following archaeological and conservation work in Wawel Cathedral – the king’s remains were solemnly reburied.
The medal is made in the form of a pendant with an integral suspension loop at the top, a typical feature of popular patriotic commemoratives produced in the second half of the 19th century, most often struck in Lwów and Kraków for major historical anniversaries.
Mint condition with deep luster.
Medal from the unique “Collection of Lviv and Galician Medals” of Lech Kokociński, Honorary President of the Polish Numismatic Society.
Obverse: bust of Casimir the Great wearing a crown, facing right.
