Named: Sgt. D. Riel 4th Chasseurs.
The Unit was formed in Montreal in May 1862, the 4th Battalion, Volunteer Militia Rifles, Canada (commonly known as the Chasseurs Canadiens) was a prominent French-Canadian militia battalion. The unit was mobilized for active duty along the Quebec-U.S. border during the Fenian incursions of 1866 and 1870 (such as guarding key frontier points in the Eastern Townships and Huntingdon County, including areas near Trout River). The medal is well worn condition, and missing 1866 bar. Dol Riel is listed in "Canada General Service Roll 1866-70 by John R. Thyen"
