During the reign of Augustus III, Gdańsk expanded its minting operations. The first six-taler coins were issued in 1760, and the issuance ended in the year of the monarch’s death. This was a response to the influx of royal coins produced in Saxony, and particularly to the counterfeit, substandard coins of Frederick II that were passing themselves off as such.
