August III of Saxony, 1755 EC, Leipzig – a beautiful
On the obverse, a crowned bust in right-facing profile.
On the reverse, a crowned coat-of-arms shield. Below the shield, the denomination “VI” and the initials “E–C” (Ernest Dietrich Croll—master of the Leipzig Mint).
The bust is wider, with a ribbed ribbon of the Order of the Golden Fleece.
The crown fields on the obverse are ribbed without pendants, while the crown fields on the reverse are smooth with pendants in the central fields.
A rivet on the shoulder strap.
Condition: NGC AU58 example
The coin was removed from an NGC slab graded NGC AU58 (slab number 5788128-016; certificate included). The highest points of the relief are slightly worn, but the piece is beautifully struck and preserved. Three-dimensional relief. Beautiful detail. Intense luster and mint mirror finish. In this condition, the coin is quite rare and rather difficult to find on the collector’s market. A beautiful piece for discerning collectors.
