View of a flat Italian landscape with a calm river, on the right bank of which a man is riding one of two horses pulling an old wooden cart reflected in the water; further behind them is another rider. On the left bank of the river is a tall, bare tree with a wooden box hanging from it. Atmospheric depiction, emphasizing the vastness of the landscape, under a high blue, almost cloudless sky, which occupies three-quarters of the picture surface. Sporadic rests, slight frame damage.
Annotation:
The title refers to two cities, Aquileia is in the Friuli region and lies on the Natissa river, Altino lies on the Venice lagoon.

Son of the painter Guglielmo Ciardi (1842/43-1917) and brother of Emma Ciardi (1879 -1933). He studied at the Venice Academy of Fine Arts Academy from 1896 to 1899.
