Oil, canvas, 40x60 cm. Signed on the reverse.
Born in 1953 in Dolhobrody in Podlasie, Stanislaw Baj is one of the most outstanding contemporary Polish classicists. For the past 25 years, almost every day Baj has stood on the bank of the Bug River, in that one chosen spot, and painted the river. He has already painted hundreds of its images: from almost realistic, multicolored landscapes, through monochromatic, ominous ones, to contemplative apparent abstractions, where only one perfect horizontal line, made "wet-in-wet," is the last vestige of concreteness. His works have been exhibited in more than 100 solo exhibitions and 200 group exhibitions. He has received numerous awards, including the Silver and Gold Medal for Merit to Culture Gloria Artis.
