Sergey Maliszewski

Sergei Malishevsky was born in Moscow in 1956. He came from an artistic family, his father Algerd Malishevsky was a painter well-known in the Belarusian art community. On the other hand, Sergey Malishevsky graduated from the Minsk Art School and the Belarusian Academy of Theater and Art (now the Academy of Fine Arts in Minsk), where he studied under Vladimir Stelmashonok. He was a member of the association "Pluralis" (1988-1991), the painting section of the Union of Artists of Belarus (since 1990), the International Guild of Painters and the creative association "Artel" (since 2004).

Malishevsky's paintings are distinguished by the complex forms that appear on his canvases. It is worth noting the enormous amount of detail in his paintings. At the beginning of his artistic path he admitted to being fascinated by the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch and Salvador Dali. However, even as a mature painter, he emphasized the existence of his own distinct style. Recipients of his art also perceive inspiration from the works of Pieter Breugel the Elder and Max Ernst. Maliszewski's work is closest to surrealism and magical realism. His paintings also contain symbolic content, references to mythology or religious motifs.

Sergei Malishevsky died on February 19, 2020. A very prolific painter, he left behind many paintings that are in public collections (including the Polish Museum in Chicago) and private collections around the world.
