Lech KOLASIŃSKI (b. 1986), Abstraction, 2013

The artist studied at the Faculty of Painting of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, where he graduated in 2012 from the Interdisciplinary Studio under Dr. Grzegorz Sztwiertnia. He works in painting, video, animation and illustration, in which the painterly gaze plays a key role. He is currently working on his doctoral thesis on designing tactile illustrations for the blind at the Faculty of Industrial Forms of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. He has held solo exhibitions in Krakow, Sosnowiec, Ljubljana, Maribor, and Lecce, among others. He has participated in many group exhibitions in Poland, Slovenia, Germany, Italy and Lithuania. He is the author of stage designs for the Inverted Theater in Krakow (2013, 2014), as well as illustrations, graphics for the blind. Since 2014, he has been working at the Faculty of Art at the Pedagogical University of Cracow.

"Abstraction, squares" is a painting relating to Gestalt theory, exploring the relationship between the whole and its individual elements, visual impressions changing depending on the distance from which one looks at it. Abstract from a distance, it becomes representational, even illustrative, when viewed from a closer distance. The work also makes an attempt to accommodate the maximum number of subjects on one plane, to find a universal artistic answer through a multi-thematic collage. The painting was presented in Vilnius at Arka Gallery (2016) and at Otwarta Pracownia in Krakow (2012).
