Two figures on a sofa

The composition "Two figures on a sofa" is a clear example of Grzegorz Bienias' characteristic painting style - balancing between figuration and abstraction, emotionality and construction. The work depicts two female figures seated on a sofa in an interior, marked only by contour and color. The contoured black lines build forms, but at the same time dissolve into a painterly gesture - dense, expressive and multi-layered. The color, though seemingly chaotic, is deliberate - it creates an aura of intimacy and psychological tension. The painting reveals the artist's strong interest in the human form and its presence in symbolic and painterly space.
