Biography
From 1931 to 1935 studied at the Municipal School of Decorative Arts and Painting under professors Edward Butrymowicz and Mieczyslaw Schulz. From 1935 to 1939 he was a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under professors Felicjan Szczęsny Kowarski and Leonard Pękalski. He did not receive his diploma until after the war - in 1946, under Prof. Felicjan Szczęsny Kowarski.
During World War II he was a soldier of the Home Army Headquarters - Branch VI of the Bureau of Information and Propaganda. As an artist-artist he participated in the activities of Operation "N". In his apartment was located one of the caches of "enowcy". In 1941, he participated in the action of stealing from the hands of the Germans Stanisław Tomaszewski, alias "Miedza", arrested by the Gestapo. Together with Mieczyslaw Jurgielewicz, he was the author of the poster "To arms, in the ranks of the Home Army!" - made in the first days of August 1944.Participant in the Warsaw Uprising. After the capitulation, he left Warsaw with the civilian population.
In 1954-1960, he was responsible for designing and supervising the fresco and sgraffito decorations of the facades of tenement houses in Warsaw's Old and New Town, which had been rebuilt from war damage.
Edmund's wife, Irena Burke (1922-2000), a stage designer for Warsaw stages, was the daughter of Leonard Piskorski.
