watercolor, pencil, paper; 22 x 16 cm
Provenance:
private collection, Poland
This small composition depicts an interior reduced to a compact arrangement of planes, objects, and contrasting colors. The space is strongly flattened, and the objects are subordinated to the geometric structure of the painting. As a result, the scene functions simultaneously as a depiction of an interior and as an autonomous color composition. This method of synthesizing perceived reality has its roots in Lenica’s earlier experiments with Cubism and the geometrization of figuration.
