Artur Winiarski deals exclusively with painting, the subject of which for some time has remained the post-Soviet landscape, taken in various aspects: symbolic, metaphorical, emotional. He tries to describe this world with the language of painting: matter, color, light, gesture and sign. He is constantly experimenting with the means of expression to stimulate an intuitive response to seemingly distant, but still present phenomena and events, hidden signs, symbols, pictograms, rituals, behaviors, all sorts of cultural mainstays of the Soviet era, of which there are still so many around us. He makes painterly attempts at syncretism, combining the painterly and literary elements. Artur Winiarski's paintings feature simplified signs: a black Volga, a Tupolev, strange angular buses, guards with wolfhounds, old placards, postcards, labels from matchbox, vodka and cigarette products, which have been strewn on the fences enclosing the horizon in his paintings. These signs act as painterly bridges, about times that seem to have passed. But are they really gone? Artur Winiarski (born 1960), PhD, professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, painter. From 1989 to 1994, he studied at the Painting Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in the painting studio of Prof. R. Ziemski and the textile studio of Prof. S. Andrzejewski. He works at the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where he currently runs a painting studio for first-year students. Author of many solo and group exhibitions.
