John II Casimir, Szóstak 1662 GBA, Lviv – rare
Type VII (Ciura) bust.
The Ślepowron coat of arms (of Jan Kazimierz Krasiński—Grand Treasurer of the Crown) is divided by a circumferential inscription on the obverse.
On the reverse, on either side of the shield bearing the Snopek coat of arms (the coat of arms of the Vasa family), are the letters G B – A (the initials of Giovanni Battista Ammureti—the leaseholder of the Lviv mint).
Variant with plain coats of arms.
An oval-shaped cartouche bearing the Vasa coat of arms. The cartouche is decorated with bows. Above the cartouche is a trefoil.
A variant with an inscription bearing the king’s title IO CASIM … PO ET SVE in the border on the obverse and … ARGEN SEX REG PO … in the border on the reverse—rare.
Condition: 2+/2
Minor die and strike defects, but a beautifully preserved piece. Luster and plenty of mint mirror finish. A rarer year of issue. A rare variant. A beautiful coin.
