John II Casimir, Szóstak 1661 GBA, Lviv – double date – rare and very nice
Type VII (Ciura) bust.
The Ślepowron coat of arms (of Jan Kazimierz Krasiński—Grand Treasurer of the Crown) is divided by a circumferential inscription on the obverse.
On the reverse, flanking the shield bearing the Snopek coat of arms (the coat of arms of the Vasa family), are the letters G B – A (the initials of Giovanni Battista Ammureti—the leaseholder of the Lviv Mint).
Variant with plain heraldic shields.
An oval-shaped cartouche bearing the Vasa coat of arms.
The date concludes the edge inscription on both the obverse and reverse—a rare feature.
Variant with the inscription bearing the king’s title IO CASIM … REX POL 1661 in the border on the obverse and … ARGEN SEX REG POL 1661 in the border on the reverse—rare.

Condition: 2+
Minor metal defects and slight localized under-strikes, but beautifully preserved for this type of coin. Well-defined relief. Intense luster and plenty of mint mirror finish. A rare variant with the date on both the obverse and reverse. In this condition, the coin is rare and hard to find on the collectors’ market. A beautiful piece for discerning collectors.
