A nicely preserved piece. A cast bronze medal commemorating one of the most tragic events in Polish history during the Partitions: the Galician Massacre.
Obverse: The head of Marianne wearing a Phrygian cap, facing right, flanked by a bayonet and a palm leaf; the legend around the rim reads:
DEMOCRATIE FRANCAISE;
Reverse: a gallows; below it and in the rim, the inscription:
MASSACRES DE GALLICIE/METTERNICH/BRENDT/VOUS A/L'EXECRATION/DE LA/POSTERITE;
