An exceptionally valuable study devoted to the rural wooden architecture of the province of East Prussia (encompassing the regions of Warmia and Masuria, parts of present-day Lithuania, and the Kaliningrad Oblast). A work by Richard Jepsen Dethlefs (1864–1944), a Prussian architect, building official, and conservator of historical monuments in East Prussia, as well as the initiator of the open-air museum in Königsberg. The author draws attention to the gradual disappearance of the folk architecture of these regions and the need to preserve it. He describes in detail the techniques used by carpenters and characterizes the ornamentation and typology of the buildings. The work contains very valuable photographic and drawing documentation. Some soiling; creases along the edges; Table 1 is in two parts. In good condition.
