PIETKIEWICZ Czeslaw - Polesie Rzeczyckie. Materjały etnograficzne. Cz.1: Kultura materjalna. Kraków 1928; PAU. 8, pp. VI, 318, [1]. broch. wt. Prace Kom. Etnograf., no. 7.
Fragment of brochure cover. pasted on the face of the secondary pamphlet, otherwise very good condition. Piece uncut. A valuable documentary work of the material culture of Polesia, presenting with great expertise and knowledge of things hundreds of objects made by peasants, describing in detail their functions and techniques of manufacture. Czeslaw Pietkiewicz (1856-1936), the son of a forestry supervisor in the Polesie primeval forests, collected materials for this work in 1863-1888, living for years in the village of Pruszyn and later Babczyn in the district of Rzeczka. The value of this monograph lies, among other things, in the fact that it combines the knowledge of an ethnographer with the expertise of a man familiar with the objects described from autopsy and everyday use. It describes all traditional tools, instruments and products related to hunting, beekeeping, shepherding, farming and all varieties of rural crafts. Nearly 300 illustrations in the text.
