Announcing in print a new edition of Dawnéj Polski, a few words of explanation, we consider it a duty, at the head to put.

The work of the late Adryan Krzyzanowski was created, so to speak, accidentally, because of the dissection of the work: Poland until the fifth half of the seventeenth century. We have told you more about it in the biography of this learned man. Here we will only add a few words about the revised layout itself. The venerable author, in the first edition of his work (from pp. LXXIII to LXXX), placed the detailed content of this occasional work, and by arranging the multitude of details with which he filled Old Poland, gave a guideline according to which the objects in the work should be arranged. Therefore, in the layout of the new edition (with the knowledge of the son of the deceased, and with the strenuous desire and effort of the publisher S. H. Merzbach), which was printed under our supervision and correction, we mainly took into account the division of the late Krzyzanowski, and placed the additions in the course of the work, according to the indications of the author himself, given in the place mentioned above.

The dissertation on Slavic languages and the monumental image of Copernicus in Warsaw, according to Thorwaldsen, is included in the first part of the book, immediately after the memoir on Nicolaus Copernicus. In this introductory volume we left the author's preparation and justification, which speak more eloquently than any speech, and added a biography of a man of so much merit in the country and writing. It could be said that the mass of important facts, more agglomerated than related, more likely to be dispersed than systematic, although always drawn with a single purpose, necessarily needed a index. We have completed this laborious work, which consists of more than 70 pages, and to make the work of the late author easier to use we have added a few minor notes.

However, we left everything in its original place and reprinted the edition of 1844, which due to a very small number of printed pieces has become a bibliographical rarity and is widely searched for. The bookstore of S. H. Merzbach's bookstore, having decorated the new edition with the image of a memorable worker in the field of sciences, does a favor to the reading public by circulating the work for the second time, the antiquarian prices of which have already reached 80 zlotys or 12 silver rubles.
