Stanislaw Choloniewski (1791-1846), Catholic priest, author of romantic "uncanny" stories. After completing his home education, he began studying at Vilnius University. He then served in the ranks of the army, which he abandoned for the tsar's diplomatic service. At the age of 36 in 1827, he traveled to Rome and entered the seminary, being ordained two years later. In 1830, he befriended A. Mickiewicz in Rome. This acquaintance had a profound religious influence on the poet. Having returned to the country, he stayed mainly in Kamieniec, holding church functions. As an excellent preacher, he devoted himself zealously to apostolic work on the "religious revival of Podolia," and devoted his free time to literature.
