Toned lithograph; board dimensions 309 × 447 mm. Graphic after conservation. Graphics from Album of Polish Views, Warsaw 1873-1883; lithographs according to drawings by Orda, rebound at Maksymilian Fajans in Warsaw; lithographed by Misierowicz. Series II.
Orda's drawings, executed in the field, were topographical and documentary in nature, but not a dry inventory. The artist combined architectural precision with a landscape mood: he depicted buildings in a broad landscape context, often with the introduction of staffage - figures, carriages, genre scenes. This created images not only of objects, but of entire cultural landscapes.
Alojzy Misierowicz, a lithographer who worked with Orda, developed the drawings for printing, giving them their final graphic form. The lithographs are characterized by clear contour drawing, subtle chiaroscuro modeling and clear composition, subordinated to the viewing axis and the principles of linear perspective. This is the classic school of nineteenth-century documentary printmaking - precise, disciplined, focused on the permanence of the message.
