Moses Kisling (1891-1953) - prominent Polish-French painter of Jewish origin, known for his distinctive portraits and landscapes. He was born in Krakow, where he began to study painting, and then went to Paris, where he became an important figure in the artistic bohemia of Montparnasse. Kisling worked in a style that combined elements of Expressionism and Post-Impressionism, and his works, especially his portraits of women, are distinguished by intense colors and subtle sensuality.
While in France, Kisling was closely associated with the Provençal landscapes, which repeatedly appeared in his work. The posthumous edition of Provence by Jean Giono, published in Paris in 1954, is a tribute to a region that inspired many artists, including Kisling. The book combines a literary vision of Provence with the artistic outlook of painters like Kisling, who reflected the charm of the region in their works.
Moses Kisling died in 1953 in Sanary-sur-Mer, Provence - the region that became his home and one of his main sources of inspiration. His artistic legacy remains highly regarded, and his paintings depicting Provence are considered among the most important in his oeuvre.
