Wladyslaw ZAKRZEWSKI (1903-1944).
Graphic artist and illustrator. Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under W. Jarocki and J. Pankiewicz (1922-1924), and then at private painting academies in Paris. He made artistic trips around Europe (including Constantinople, Greece, Italy and the Balkans). A student of Jan Wojnarski, from the 1930s he devoted himself exclusively to printmaking, using techniques such as copperplate, etching, aquatint and soft varnish. He mainly created views of Polish cities, seaside and Silesian landscapes. Author of graphic series, including Teka Śląska, Teka Morska, Warsaw, Lviv, Krakow and numerous ex-librises. During World War II, acting in the Home Army (pseudonym Jacek), he was involved in forging documents. He died at the hands of a Nazi patrol. In 1947, the TPSP in Cracow organized a posthumous exhibition for him.
