About the Artists:
Krzysztof Powałka is a contemporary "engaged" painter, creating with reference to reality and telling stories about it. His favorite technique is oil painting, although he also does not shy away from ink or drawing arts. In his work, he weaves "reality" into art, talks about it, shows other ways and sometimes a better world. Better does not mean brand new, invented, unreal... It is about refinement and showing that our reality in which we live, often brutal and hideous, can be beautiful and colorful. The dark side of the world, which comes to light through its images, makes us think about it, confront it and draw conclusions that will perhaps exist in the real world. And thus contribute to its minimal change....
Michal Powałka is a painter who has currently devoted himself entirely to oil painting and with its help is seeking his individual path of artistic development. He creates his painterly compositions on the borderline between realism and surrealism. In addition to the painterly fabric, his paintings also show a strong influence of illustration and graphics, especially when composing pictorial representations. He places the human being at the center of his artistic considerations. The human body, anatomy, the human interior and deformities artfully depicted in terms of form allow to penetrate "into the depths of the psychological truth about human nature."
Michal Powałka: "For me, the body is a "material" and an idea, a body that is beautiful and ugly at the same time (one does not exclude the other), and all thanks to the timeline in which we are inscribed. Because time changes us, including physically, such as in my painting "Timeline." Today, the body is most often treated very objectively. Reflections on the expression of movement, the emotionality of form, the beauty of gesture are avoided. Conversations on such a topic often end in laughter and the shallowing of the thread to the very mundane. In general, any conversation related to feelings is rejected. People can't talk about it, they are afraid, they shut down. I show that this should not be the case. The naked human body has united people throughout the ages. In many paintings, I try to make sure that the very representation of the human body - male or female - conveys the emotional nature of the situation, is multifaceted, timeless.
