Adam Myjak (Stary Sącz 1947 - Warsaw 2025) - sculptor. He worked in monumental sculpture, intimate sculpture, medals and drawing. From 1965 he studied at the Department of Sculpture of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He graduated with honors in 1971, and a year later began teaching at his alma mater. He has been a professor since 1990. He was twice elected to double terms as rector (1990-1996 and since 1999). He debuted with the generation of the so-called New Figuration of the 1970s in Polish art. He co-founded the "For Improvement" movement. The early period of his work was marked by a large series of heads with soft, as if misty textures and dreamy features, monumental regardless of their physical dimensions. The motif of the head as a field of symbolic endeavor remains relevant in his work, undergoing, along with equally classic subjects such as the bust and the figure, successive formal and stylistic phases. Among them, there is a period of more decisive and synthetic surface molding and contrasting of matte and polished parts or combining different materials, such as stone and bronze, which occurred in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The artist spent the years 1979-1981 on a Wilhelm Lehmbruck scholarship in Germany. In the mid-1980s, the rolling, elongated, openwork "Figures" became a new series in his work. The following shapes and forms successively enriched the repertoire of his work, making up its present richness. He has won numerous awards in national and international competitions. In addition to sculpture and medal making, to which he devoted himself, especially at the beginning of his creative path, he has monumental projects and realizations, often undertaken jointly with Antoni Janusz Pastwa (the unrealized Katyn Monument at the Powązki cemetery, 1983, more recently - the quadriga at the Grand Theater, unveiled on May 3, 2002). Drawing is also an important strand of his work.
