Folding map, mounted on canvas as published, 57 x 55.5 cm;
Publisher: F.J. Salmon, Palestine 1935; Large ink stamp: “2nd Carpathian Rifle Regiment, Assignment:” with the handwritten inscription: “July 8, 1940.” The Polish Rifle Regiment fought in Libya (the Battle of Tobruk, 1941), Egypt, and the Middle East. When the Polish Army arrived in Palestine, several hundred Polish soldiers of Jewish nationality settled there permanently. An early map of the territory of present-day Israel. Since it was a limited edition produced for local use and new maps were not highly valued at the time, this map is now an extremely rare find. It has not appeared at auction in 25 years, and it is not listed in the catalogs of antique dealers worldwide. The only piece is in the collection of the National Library of Israel. One-of-a-kind;
Condition: wear at the fold, a dozen or so pinholes in the upper part of the map, signs of use.
