"Pan Podstoli" is one of the most important works of prose from the Polish Enlightenment and is sometimes considered one of the first Polish novels. The title character is portrayed as a model of an enlightened landowner and farmer, and the work serves as a literary exposition of the social and moral ideals promoted by Ignacy Krasicki.
