First edition of the book Siege, which is an illustrated reportage documenting the siege of Warsaw in September 1939, by American photographer and filmmaker Julien Bryan (1899-1974). Being an eyewitness to the events, he captured in photographs the dramatic scenes of the lives of Warsaw residents during the German attack on the city. His photos depict the destruction, the suffering of the civilian population and the daily struggle for survival in the besieged city. Through these unique photographs, the world was able to see the brutality of war and its impact on the civilian population. The piece on offer includes an autograph and dedication by the author to Margaret Holmes (1909-2009), an Australian peace activist, dated April 11, 1940.
