Comments
Chateau Palmer is one of the most important estates in Bordeaux. One of those that should necessarily be in the first class if one were to repeat the 1855 classification. Why? Brilliantly managed (thanks to the immensely talented Thomas Duroux), excellent stewardship of its vineyards and fruit (biodynamic cultivation, precise vinification and winemaking) and increasingly superior, often unmatched first-class wines (much of its charm owing to a very high proportion of merlot).

It owes its name to General Charles Palmer, who bought the estate in 1814, and the Peireire brothers, wealthy bankers from Paris, greatly expanded the estate during the era of the famous classification.

One of the peculiarities of Bordeaux is the 19th-century practice of Bordeaux negociants who, to enhance their wines, added wine based on the Syrah varietal from the Rhône in small proportions. The market liked these wines; regulations did not prohibit them. Of course, over time the practice was banned and abandoned, but Thomas Duroux, inspired by one of Palmer's tastings of old vintages, decided to bring the practice back to life.

As a result, special editions of Palmer wine are created in selected vintages. To the classic blend (merlot and cabernet sauvignon in equal proportions supplemented with petit verdot) is added about 10% of a carefully selected Rhône wine, based on the syrah varietal. The blend is aged for about 20 months in barrels, half of which are new. Since this combination of wines goes beyond the appellation, the vintage may not appear on the label (hence the Lot 20.21 designation suggesting what vintage the wine is from). This is a unique and exceptional wine that allows you to go a little deeper into the history of this passionate region and great producer.
