Our Lady of Sorrows

Derived from the Group of the Crucifixion, the figure of the Mother of God squatting in half-fainting, with a gesture of entwined hands expressing grief, with a strong twist of the body and an opposing turn of the head, clad in a gown, a cloak thrown over her lap with the hem thrown over her left shoulder and a veil on her head. The secondary polychrome refers to the original one, with the color of the robes pink and blue, in the iconographic tradition attributed to the person of the Virgin Mary. The dynamic pose and the character of the flared, heavily carved, plastic robes point to the mid-18th century and probably the sculptural environment of Malopolska.
