(Estr. T. 25 ).First edition. The work describes in detail the wars of the Swedes against Poland and Denmark from 1654 to 1660. Text illustrated according to drawings made by Erik Dahlberg, engineer and general quartermaster, accompanying the Swedish troops. Engravings made by French, Swedish, Dutch engravers, among others: Blesendorff, Boulanger, Cochin, Cordier, W. Swidde, F. de Lapointe and others. Many engravings are devoted to Poland; a panorama of Warsaw, scenes of battles at Warsaw, Torun, Malbork, plans of cities and fortresses: Gdansk, Sandomierz, Lowicz, Brzeg, Piotrkow, and a rare plan of Cracow present only in the first Latin edition. Particularly noteworthy is the beautiful 4.5m-long panorama of Stockholm, with magnificent staffage. All illustrations are of high documentary and artistic value. The rich staffage of the engravings is valuable material for the study of construction, art of war, costuming of the Baroque era. Stamp: "Fürstlich ... Familien Bibliothek. Schloss Eferding." Traces of non. dampstaining and browning in places, mistakes in pagination, sheet 69/70 torn, 1 sheet of text with loss of upper margin, view of Toruń with taped margin. A few copperplate engravings with some tears, fraying and creasing due to improper folding. Stamp and notations on the endpapers. Period binding: brown leather, red signboard and gilt on spine. Binding partially repaired, rubbing of the binding. A beautiful, rare and complete work .
