Biography
He lives and works in his hometown of Waliły in the Białystok region. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He received his diploma in 1984 from the studio of Prof. T. Dominik. He made his debut at the Foksal Gallery in Warsaw in 1984. His collaboration with the Foksal Gallery enabled the artist to present his works to a European audience. Beginning with a solo exhibition at the Galleria del Cavallino in Venice, art dealers and collectors from Europe and the U.S. have shown a sustained interest in the artist’s work. As early as 1988, Tarasewicz’s works were presented at the Aperto ’88 exhibition as part of the Venice Biennale. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the “Jan Cybis” Prize and the “Nowosielski Prize.” The artist’s early paintings resembled landscapes, from which he gradually eliminated “superfluous” elements, offering a highly personal interpretation of nature. In his works from recent years, he breaks through the formal limitations of painting confined to the space of a canvas stretched on a frame. He often takes advantage of the opportunity to go beyond the frame. He paints the surfaces of walls, columns, and floors. As he himself says, “...painting, from its very beginnings in the Neolithic era, was created on walls, floors, or ceilings.”
